Week 4

Hi! My name is Janice Fe Sonsiadek, and I am currently a senior (expecting to graduate a semester early) majoring in Communication and minoring in DCIM. Since my middle school days, I have been fortunate to

engage in various hands-on experiences related to childcare and social welfare, demonstrating my unwavering commitment to community and personal growth. From volunteering at nursing homes to teaching children in elementary schools, I have actively contributed to social impact.

My passion for cameras led me to volunteer at the largest high school film festival in the country for two consecutive years. Additionally, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I found ways to virtually contribute to my community and joined AmeriCorps, the sister program of the Peace Corps, completing my third term earlier this year. This experience further fueled my passions, and I also sought involvement at Rutgers. During my sophomore year, I became a member of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, the first, largest, and only international Asian-interest sorority.

I’ve taken on roles such as Community Service Chair and served on the Community Service Committee, where I helped plan our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Benefit Showcase, raising funds for our organization’s international efforts toward our national philanthropy. With these experiences, I landed my first internship during my sophomore year at Choose New Jersey, the state’s leading nonprofit economic development organization, where I have the privilege of working alongside Governor Phil Murphy.

As I approach my two-year anniversary with Choose New Jersey in March, I am confident in the path I wish to pursue after graduating early from Rutgers. I hope to embark on a career in pro-social marketing and social impact at a nonprofit organization or mission-driven company. Inspired by my experiences and the individuals I’ve encountered, I aim to contribute to addressing global challenges that were barely on the radar several decades ago: globalization, terrorism, climate change, and changing demographics.
